CERAMICS

When I just started in 1987, I only made sculptures in clay, they were fired, but not coloured with pigments or glazed.  In the fall of 2020 I started with engobes, pigments and oxides to color my sculptures. There I learned to work with engobes, glazes and firing. Initially I focused on creating leaf and flower shapes and creating nature elements such as sky in the form of clouds, rainbow, sun with cloud, water in the form of a drop + waves, fire in the form of flames, earth in the form of hills with footprints.

Barbs Sculpturegarden-Studio participates in the OPEN STUDIO's ROUTE of NORTH EAST VELUWE FOUNDATION the first weekend of October 2023 from 11 am to 6 pm. With info about workshops soapstone + modeling & modeling course in Gigant. It is also possible to schedule your own workshop date with a group. With good weather there can be a demonstration in the garden. During the open afternoon there are bronze + stone sculptures in the garden + in the studio. In the biological garden are many bloomers, which is also made for small animals, insects, bees and butterflies. You can already take a look on this website.

Note: Uniques, inspiration from my garden. The sunflower tiles are glued in a wooden frame. These tiles are only sold together. It's a 3-panel.
I first drew the images several times and then painted them on the tiles in 1x. In the past I have drawn, painted and photographed sunflowers more often.

Notes: Uniques. The pots are painted from my imagination. The round pot has motifs of sunflower petals and leaves. The pot with the 3 roofs is inspired by mushroom roofs and pagoda roofs. 
It was trying out which model was good and not leaking. So far, 2 models have remained. In any case, they are decorative eye-catchers for in the garden.

Notes: Big Waves with boats, 1st wave with a motorboat on top of the Gulf. 2nd Wave with submarine coming out of the Gulf. 3rd Wave with sailboat climbing to the top. The Great Waves belong together and were created to represent the rise of the water due to the Climate Change to come. As a symbol of rescue from the flood, everyone must provide a boat! In 2 Waves I have indicated the power of the water even more with gold leaf and the light in the water.

CLAY SCULPTURES
The joy of making always plays a big part in my life. Gradually I try to deepen the content, in shaping and in materials and techniques. This often contains a gradient, for example that I first drew a certain subject, then painted it, then I executed it in clay or in wax and then cast in bronze or made in stone. For the various developments of this, look at my pages stone sculptures and bronze sculptures. It goes into processes that take years.

I often work small, because this remains easier to transport and exhibit myself. Sometimes I made larger sculptures, this was a physical challenge, because I had major back surgery in 1984.

In the early days that I made sculptures, I only modeled in clay, I modeled portraits, human figures, animals and fantasy figures. On this page are a number of my clay sculptures that I have made over time. And sometimes I went to paint them. Below are photos of some examples.

The types of clay I have worked with are fine and coarse chamotte in different colors and self-hardening Plus clay.
