The timeless bronze sculptures made by me are all developed and made according to my own idea. Some are unique, meaning that it's the only piece of it. Other bronze sculptures were made in small series. With these bronze sculptures I represent different subjects. Inspiration I find in nature, in animals, in fantasy figures, in organic forms and in the classical forms of the human body. For this I used drawings, paintings and photo' s from the models. 

In the beginning it was a challenge to shape classical figures of dancers and nudes, but not to standard poses. However, in an application of self-invented postures or poses not previously made in art, for example by the dancers. In the same time, I was studying the essential forms of the figures, about movement and composition, and not about making an exact physical representation or making an erotic image.  Next to the sculptures you find the information about it.  You can contact me for purchasing such a unique and timeless gift .

The sculptures are made by hand, which makes them more original, more natural and more lively. They are created in a slow process, sometimes they become figurative, sometimes organic, sometimes abstract. I often find inspiration in shapes in nature & its elements, in animals and in the material itself. Before the sculptures are casted in bronze, there is a whole process that is very labor intensive - this makes bronze a more expensive, but also durable and exclusive material, which lasts a lifetime. Bronze is a metal that is an alloy (fusion) of copper and tin. I would like to show the beauty of this material with my bronze sculptures. The shaping and the expression are sometimes determined by the material and other times by the subject, by bringing this in front they start to speak.

The exclusive sculptures are timeless and each has its own atmosphere. For me it is important to create harmony in a sculpture. Working with concave and convex is essential here. Depending on the subject, all shapes, lines, movement, contrasts, structures and light & shadow are created from this.

Barbs Sculpturegarden-Studio participates in the OPEN STUDIO's ROUTE of NORTH EAST VELUWE FOUNDATION the first weekend of October 2023 from 11 am to 6 pm. With info about workshops soapstone + modeling & modeling course in Gigant. It is also possible to schedule your own workshop date with a group. With good weather there can be a demonstration in the garden. During the open afternoon there are bronze + stone sculptures in the garden + in the studio. BRONZE ANIMAL SCULPTURES

Besides making a bear in bronze, I had also painted it several times before, see below.

Above I had made a sculpture of my own cat, previously I had drawn her with charcoal. Before and after that I had painted various felines, for example for a special themed exhibition entitled Dream Island with hanging papier-mâché statues and paintings in 1996.

The kneeling elephant is a sculpture that followed earlier bronze statues of elephants and paintings. The other bronze elephants were made in a small series and have all been sold. The last painting of the standing elephant is still for sale.

Note: I think horses are beautiful animals, that's why I've made more sculptures and paintings of horses. This lying horse was made because I regularly see a horse sunbathing in the meadow in my area.

I think horses are beautiful and expressive animals, which is why they were the inspiration for several drawings in pencil, chalk and Indian ink. Large pastels and paintings in mixed media and a rather large bronze sculpture. The pastels and paintings are for sale, price on request. The drawings in chalk and ink are in a drawing booklet.

Note: I made this sculpture based on a story I read in a book about whales. A mountain tribe in Vietnam believe in an age-old myth that the Enlightenment is brought by a child on the back of a whale. I have made the sculpture in several materials, in clay and plaster and in bronze.

The little bronze whale below was created as a result of a small painting that I made intuitively. This resulted in a sketch to be able to make a sculpture in wax and then in bronze. Over time it has been cast in a small series, there is still 1 ex. for sale.

Dolphins and whales appealed to my imagination, I have often made these in different techniques. In a large pencil drawing, in a small drawing in my drawing book, large paintings in oil and acrylic (still for sale) and 2 small paintings in acrylic. And as a bronze sculpture and a ceramic sculpture of the whale rider.

The design of the sculptures is determined by the material, in the course of time I started to pay attention to more and more design elements. Contrasts are always present and give expression to the image, among other things through the concave and the convex, light and shadow, movement, lines, shapes and structures. In addition, they can have a contrast in idea and material, for example the drops, which are very heavy because of the material, but at the same time have lightness due to the playful shape. In my sculptures I always look for harmony and balance and want to realize this in the sculpture. They should rise, but at the same time stand firm.

BRONZE ORGANIC & FANTASY SCULPTURES

To make the drops I drew them, painted them in acrylic paint, made them in clay and in ceramic as a pot and in soapstone.

Originally I had made 3 forest spirits, 1 of them has been sold. All 3 forest spirits were different and therefore unique. I had also previously painted the theme of the Forest Spirit in a mixed media of acrylic, charcoal and Indian ink. The painting and 2 of the bronze statues are still for sale

BRONZE SCULPURES DANCERS & NUDES

Previously made bronze dancers, which I made in small series, have all been sold. You can see them in the gallery below. The first sculpture you see in this row was commissioned as a single copy.

I made charcoal drawings of a number of models, which you can see in the gallery below. With a group of artists we hired a model and they were able to draw and delve into the design, light and shadow and lines and movement.

The nude paintings shown below are painted in different techniques, including oil paint, acrylic and mixed techniques of acrylic paint, Indian ink, charcoal and pastel. I worked from different angles, figuratively and at some point with abstract and organic elements.
